The Adventure of Reading

The ability to read truly is the key to every aspect of learning, and, it is also the doorway to great adventures.  The world today is filled with video games, the internet, and television, yet, there is still something so marvelous about a good book.  A book gives the reader a chance to envision the characters and places in the mind and opens imaginations in ways that a movie or television program can never do.  To start kids off on the right reading path, Learning Is Fun Store has some time-tested programs that both parents and children have come to love.

Every child loves Arthur and his adventures and there are so many great software titles built around his character.  Arthur's Reading Games is a wonderful way to reinforce the reading skills that children are developing in school.  Designed for children ages 5-7, it has five different skill levels and this program is loaded with fun activities, puzzles, and surprises that keep them interested.  Games promote knowledge of vowels & consonants, word recognition, spelling, sentence construction, vocabulary, story building and memory skills.

Truly enchanting, Bailey's Book House is a very popular program, and, for good reason.  Bailey and his friends make delightful companions as kids embark upon the journey to read.  Children as young as three can be entertained while they learn letters, words and word families, rhyming, prepositions, adjectives, and storytelling.  There are seven different activities for kids to chose from that are loaded with silly fun, yet, each promotes so much learning at the same time.

The Mia Adventure series is another program that has won great praise.  Mia is a sweet little mouse and her adventure stories always teach and entertain.  In Mia's Reading Adventure, her home has been invaded by the Bugaboos.  Their mission in life is to have fun, create havoc and throw noisy parties.  Can Mia stop them before they expose themselves and Mia to the "Big Feet" (humans).  With three learning levels, this engaging program gives practice in spelling, grammar, word recognition, phonics, rhymes, and more.

Not as daunting as it sounds, Academic Fitness Math Bootcamp is a wonderful program and a fantastic bargain.  Designed to follow your child from first grade all the way through middle school, it is a multisensory teaching assistant that can help any child further their mathematics understanding, no matter what their learning style is.  Academic Fitness begins with lessons in basic addition and subtraction and continues all the way to algebra and geometry.  It even includes tips for maximizing the classroom experience and ways to help kids become better at studying.

Many children have trouble understanding why math is going to be important to them when they grow up.  The I Love Math Learning Power Pack is an entertaining way for kids to learn why math is essential.  A self-paced approach that helps teach children why math is imporant in real life and helps turn fear and dislike into a fun challenge.
